April 12th is the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic flight into orbit. To celebrate Yuri's Night in 2017, Our makerspace (Cyberia in Indianapolis) planned to pass out information about making models of the Vostok/R7 launch vehicle. One of the suggestions that came up was to let people make a flying model rocket based on Peter Alway's plans. Unfortunately, the plans are no longer online, and the book "the Art of Scale Model Rocketry" is currently out of print, so we had to let the idea go. But if you have the book or know how to find the online plans online, this is the rough shape of the nosecone, sized for a BT-50. If you can't find the plans, you can still buy a kit from Dr. Zooch or a larger version from Cosmodrome Rocketry. With all the detail work needed to complete the kits accurately, I do not feel like you will miss much compared to Peter Alway's plans. Here are some of the things to remember about this nosecone: *This will always be a Work in Progress, because there will never be a single model and print settings that will work for a balanced Vostok Rocket *The tip will need to be filed down (it is not supposed to be so sharp) *The neck is too long for the model. I left it long so that it is easier to mount and finish *I recommend printing this with 3 Shells and 70% or higher infill to make the weight closer to the appropriate one needed for stability *If you find a combination of materials and print settings that make it automatically stable, send me a message and I will update the listing
