Spreeuwenpot (starling pot)

This Terra-Cotta pot was used (in the old days) as a surrogate nest for starlings and would be hung on the walls of the farmhouses. Starlings would nest in the pots and clean the garden from snails and other bugs in order to feed their young. The tiny holes where used to insert a branch that acted as a landing zone for the birds. The large opening (wall faced) was used to clean the pot after the young had left the nest. In old Dutch this was called "A Sprey Pot" Nowadays more and more used in order to "clean" the garden in a nature friendly way without the use of poison.... likes are appreciated.
