This 3D printable spring is demonstrated in a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxwbQSMbEIA). As you scale down the spring, its spring constant decreases; conversely, increasing filament width boosts the spring constant. Suitable for tension or compression use, ensure it's short with thick filament width for compression. The design is highly flexible and fun to experiment with. It was serendipitously discovered as an auto-generated support for a hollow cylinder's middle. Further improvements are in progress, while different sizes and source files will be uploaded soon. Prototyping was done on a Fablicator (www.Fablicator.com). To print, set fill to OFF without shells. Adjust extruded width and scaling for varied spring properties, and enjoy!
