Springy Spool Hub (customizable)

Springy Spool Hub (customizable)

I was searching for a spool hub that could fit various size spools without changing the width of the spool when mounted, apart from stepped hubs. I also wanted it to lock reliably into the spool, print quickly and with minimal material waste. Since this thing was created in openSCAD, you can adapt it to your needs using Customizer, click "Open in Customizer" above for that. The clamp shown in the picture is available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2356396. If you adjust the hub to fit different spool sizes, make sure the diameter is larger than the maximum hole size you want it to accommodate. A good rule of thumb is to add 5-10% to ensure the springs have enough tension to lock it in place. Through this design, we learned that even PLA can be used to create robust springs as long as they are long and relatively thin and printed with perimeters only. Calculating the position of the root fillet in the back of the vane proved to be a significant trigonometry challenge. FAQ - What does "customizable" mean? Customizable means you can modify the model by changing the parameters that define it. In this case, you can modify the main diameter, center bore diameter, and more just by adjusting the respective numbers in the Customizer App. The beauty of parametric models is that you can adapt them to your needs without needing to understand the underlying design principles. Try it out by clicking "Open in Customizer". Revisions: rev2: fixed missing path in vane profile rev3: exported root fillet parameter rev4: added optional bearing seat rev5: fixed warning "variable not specified" ![alt](https://mmone.de/scope/scope.php?idsite=14&rec=1&action_name=hub)
