History: The Andrea Doria was an Italian liner designed right after WWII. Italy wanted a ship to show the world that they were rising from the ashes and were still a world power. The Andrea entered into service on June 16, 1951 and became a world renown liner. Her sleek lines and modern design surpassed all other liners in service. She also had a lot or artifacts and art from Italy that decorated her lounges giving her the nick name the floating art museum. On July 26 1956 she was about to finish her voyage to New York when she sailed into thick fog. The Stockholm a Swedish American liner collided into her side. The collusion is still a subject for debate to this day. The Stockholm was able to stay afloat and sail back to New York. The Andrea Doria took 11 hours before finally going under. She became to the most documented liner sinking in history since the accident happen so close to New York. News planes recorded she sinking as she went down. Model: This is just her hull with the spine and bulk heads. This model is divided up into section because she is currently designed to make a 1/200 scale model which is around 3 and a half feet long. I glued foam between the bulk heads and sanded the foam down to make the hulls profile. I also plan on Fiber glassing it because I'm building an RC model of her. This model can be built as an RC model or a static display model. I plan on uploading the rest of the the model later on because I'm still working on different aspects of the super structure to get it correct. Also with the bulk heads and spine I included the Foyer and Upper decks because in my book those decks are part of the hull. You can find her superstructure here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3416424 I hope you all enjoy this model and please feel free to contact me with questions or comments.
