St.Basil's Cathedral

This project was supervised by Joseph DeFalco at Bergen County Academies. St. Basil’s Cathedral is an iconic piece of Russian culture. It stands in the Red Square and is a symbol of the greatness of the people. When it was first constructed, this cathedral was inlayed with gold and made with nine separate churches within one building, to impress Ivan the Terrible, who commissioned it. The Soviet Era, with its intolerance for religion, stripped the cathedral of its connection with the Russian Orthodox Church and connected it to nationalism and pride for all people within the soviet borders. Now, years after the fall of the Bolsheviks, St. Basil’s Cathedral is a museum, displaying its impressive interior and exterior to millions of people a year. The goal of this project was to recreate the exterior architecture of the cathedral to reflect the construction and architectural style of the time in a geometric fashion. The focus was on the domes and the front of the connection structure to see if the design can be recreated and perfected mathematically as a tribute to this incredible piece of architectural mastery.
