St James Church Grave

A late 18th century grave positioned in St James Church, Tong, West Yorkshire. The present church was built in 1729, but there is evidence of previous churches being here since Anglo Saxon times. Architecture from some of the earlier buildings has been incorporated into the construction. This appears to be the only memorial made from limestone in the churchyard and shows significant decay / erosion. Delamination is quite evident on the top making the inscription difficult to read. The earliest burial appears to date to 1790
