This is a customizable OpenSCAD design for a display stand that can be used to show off a spherical object. It was originally designed for Mova Globes, but is customizable for any size or type of sphere (for example, an autographed baseball). The number of legs and other parameters are also customizable.

Update the Sphere_D (sphere diameter) parameter with the diameter of the object to be supported. The three sizes of Mova Globe are there to pick from in the Customizer, but the parameter can also be modified directly in the source code.

Update the Sphere_H (sphere height) parameter with the desired height from the ground to the bottom of the supported object.

Other parameters include the diameter of the base, height of the base, diameter of the legs, etc.

Print Settings

No supports, brim or raft are needed. 0.2 mm layer height and 20% infill are suitable. PLA or PETG work fine.

OpenSCAD design

The most complicated part was angling the top of the base inward to match the angle of the support arms. I couldn't find a closed-form equation for that and had to use a numerical method.

Instructions for OpenSCAD:

Open the .scad file in OpenSCAD version 2021.01 or later

Press F5 to view the model

Make sure Windows -> Hide Customizer is not checked

Review/modify the Parameters in the Customizer (or directly in the file)

Press F6 to render to STL, then press F7 to save the STL.

Category: Decor
