Star Lord's Boot Jets from Guardians of the Galaxy

No Peter Quill Cosplay would be complete without boot jets! These were done in 123 Design (not my best work, but pretty accurate). This is a work in progress. As soon as I print the other set, I'll assemble, paint, then add more pictures of the finished pieces. Hope you enjoy. UPDATE: 10/4/14 Finally finished painting! I've attached pictures of the finished pieces. We decided to go with a Velcro strap around the ankle to hold them on because of the zipper placement of the leg chaps my son used which didn't provide a good hold for stick on Velcro. Also, be careful with the joining of the upper and lower jet halves. I super glued them and had one break apart on me while painting. I re-glued with acetone (since they were ABS) then drilled and drove a small screw at an angle through the bottom half up into the upper half of the jet. I put it in the back, so you won't see it. The two pieces should be redesigned to have a peg or raised area that fits into the other half. If your printer can handle the height, the best option would be to combine the two halves into one piece... Instructions I split the model into separate pieces to make it as versatile for printing as possible. I printed in ABS and plan to glue the top and bottom jets together, then glue to the middle section. The jet tops have counter-bored holes for attaching screws. These are recommended to add structural support for the jets as well as to provide cosmetic treatment. Pre-drill the holes into the middle section and use #6x3/4" or similar screws. For attaching the unit to your boot, I included a slot in the middle section to run a strap/velcro. I'm going to try and use stick-on velcro panels across the back of the middle section and to the boot itself. There should be enough surface there to provide sufficient adhesion and I won't have a strap showing... I printed each piece with 5% infill and 3 shells at .27 layer height. I tried to reduce the weight in the models as much as possible. Hope you enjoy and post pictures if you make these.
