Update: Added a photo to show the size of the gameboard - it includes the industry standard “Toaster Pastry Scaling Device” (known as TPSD) in the picture.

2-4 players dropped in different areas of the galaxy, must obtain a Stargate to get home! Along the way, you will buy Chevron’s, DHD’s, and GDO’s. Purchases are made using Naquadah Bricks!

Stargate – Uniting The Planets

After making a Stratego-stylized Stargate game, using a standard chess-style board – I wanted to build a Stargate game using the Stargate itself. An open ended Stargate game, with virtually no limits on expansion. This is that game:

I had some criteria for the new game:

Easy to print – no supports for ANY of the parts.

Multi-colored parts with no need for an MMU

Expandable – able to add to the existing game, and even make up new rules for the game

Use the Stargate itself as the gameboard

Pieces and parts should remind you of board games from the 70’s

2-4 players

I wrote some basic rules for the game – but this game has no limits! In the future, I plan to add more modules, and may even write up some different ways to play (maybe you can do the same). I was even thinking of making a Midway Module so we can travel to Atlantis. The rules that I wrote do not take into account the countless enemies (the Goal’d, the Ori, or the Wraith), these can easily be added into the game with another set of Gatecards, or with additional modules.

Printing the Board & Game Parts

While it may take a while to print some of the parts – nothing is difficult to print! All of the parts can be made with PLA (I used Inland PLA+).

The Gameboard:
The main gameboard consists of 8 segments, that fit together like a puzzle forming the giant board. The main board is broken into 39 cells containing the same Chevron's on the “real” Stargate. Smaller joiners link the board with the SGC (Stargate Command) at the center. Four Stargates line the outside with a fifth one at the SGC. A ring platform is located on one end of the board. This allows travel to other modules with a ring platform attached. A Gatecard holder can be swapped out for one or more of the 4 joiners (The cards provide the players with more problems or solutions along the way).

The Eight segments of the gameboard. I printed mine with Inland Black PLA+ and Inland Silk Gold PLA. This is a two color pair of dice, printed in two parts, assembled on the printer. Here are the steps;

First, print “dice inner block” with Silk Gold, remove from the printer, keeping the orientation the same (set aside). Print the “dice frame”, adding a pause to your print at 18.50 (I just added a color change). With the print paused, slide the “dice inner block” inside the “dice frame” (it should sit flush). Resume the print, and the block will be sealed inside – a nice dice. I have designed this with expansion in mind. I am hoping that others make up their own games for use with this basic set.

Basic Rules and How to play:

The game complete game consists of the following parts and accessories:
Gameboard - 8 segments
Joiners – 4 segments (or 3 if you are using either of the gatecard holders)
Gatecard Holder – 1 unit
SGC Module – 1 unit
SGC Stargate base (ramp) – 1 unit
SGC Stargate IRIS – 1 unit
Stargate base (staircase) – 6 units
Stargate (rings) – 6 units
Stargate Storage Module – 1 unit
GDO’s – 4 units
GDO Storage Module – 1 unit
Naquadah Generator – 4 units
Naquadah Generator Storage Module – 1 unit
Sarcophagous – 1 unit
Sarcophagous Storage Module – 1 unit
DHD’s – 5 units
DHD Storage Module – 1 unit
Transfer Station Module – 1 unit

Setting up the gameboard

Assemble the eight segments of the gameboard (see pictures),

add in the Joiners and the SGC center module (and the gatecard holder if you are going to use it).

Place the Stargate bases (four of them) at the four spots around the gameboard, and place the SGC base and Stargate in the center (press the IRIS in position as well). drop in the ring platform at the bottom of the board. Players buy Chevrons to make more loot, so they can get a Stargate, a Naquadah Generator, A DHD, and a GDO – you can not get home without a GDO! First one to make it back to Stargate Command is the winner.

Note about the rules: Instead of using money in this game, purchase and fees utilize Naquadah Bricks. The amounts that I have put together is an estimate only - these will probably need adjusted (fees, puchases, amount to start with, etc.) in order to provide the best game experience.

General Rules

Players 2-4
All players first choose a character (one of the four pawns).
Once their color is chosen, each player can collect the set of Chevron and Travel frames that match their pawn color. Each player also receives 50 Naquadah Bricks at the start of the game.

Roll the dice to see who goes first, second , third, etc. (high roller goes first)

Players one places their pawn on any of the empty Stargate bases – player two places their pawn on the next base, and each player continues around clockwise.

Player one rolls the dice, and travelling clockwise, works their way around the ring. The gate arrows are included in counts traveling to and from the gate bases and the ring platform.

If a player lands on an unclaimed Chevron, they can make a claim on it and buy it at that time. They can not buy it at the beginning of their next turn. Once purchased, a colored frame is placed on it, and play continues. If a player lands on a previously owned Chevron, they owe the owner a landing fee. Price of Chevrons & fees is shown below:

General Chevrons: 10 bricks / Landing fee 4 bricks
Chevrons too & from Stargates: Price 20 bricks / Landing fee 8 bricks
Chevron too & from the Ring Platform: Price 20 bricks / Landing fee 8 bricks
Earth Chevron (the Big “A”): Price 30 bricks / landing fee 16 bricks

If you land on the Ring Platform, you can immediately jump to one of the various modules, to buy what you need. After your purchase, you remain on the module until your next turn. On your next roll, you include the count form the module to the ring platform on the gameboard (you cannot travel to another module). Exception - rolling a seven allows travel to another module on your next turn

If you purchase a Stargate, place it on any of the empty staircase bases around the gameboard, and place a colored frame to show ownership. The frame protects your investment. Anyone traveling through your Stargate must pay a fee of 2 bricks – either direction. You may not travel through the gate until you add a Naquahda Generator (for manual dialing) or DHD (for automatic dialing). Once you have a gate in place, and ownership has been established, the SGC will send you 20 bricks everytime you pass it on your turn. You may exit from ANY gate in the system, even without a DHD or generator in place.

Here are the prices for the items on the modules:

Stargate – 30 bricks
Naquahda Generator – 30 bricks
DHD – 35 bricks
GDO – 40 bricks

(These prices are estimates only – these may need adjusted for better gameplay)

General Information about the equipment & modules:

Stargate

Used for travel between any other Stargate on the board. If you have any trouble printing, or need some additional support, drop me a line or leave something in the comment section. Please enjoy & leave a comment!
