Steampunk Top and Spin Station

steam·punk (noun) a genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advanced technology Here's a long spinning top design in the steampunk style. It's based on the 3D Spin Top http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1765506 in that it uses a steel ball bearing as the tip. I've also designed a matching spin station that uses a double concave, 75 mm diameter, 500 mm focal length glass lens (available from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016P83OBW). By combining the steel ball tip, the glass lens with a solid infill print using a raft, I was able to spin this top for 7:26 minutes. Watch the unpainted top at the end of this video to see it spinning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2WdStnurvM Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: solid Notes: For the spin top, I used "bottom solid layers" for the entire print. This gave me 100% infill but without using the infill design, which jammed my printer. The bottom of the top stayed flatter when I used a raft. For the spin station, I used 20% infill and no raft. Post-Printing Painting I used Vallejo Model Color paints and then lightly dusted earth and oxide Vallejo pigment to give the pieces a weathered look. How I Designed This Fusion 360
