Stevie Nicks' "Seven Wonders" Jewelry Set

I am a third year in Industrial Design on the product track at the University of Cincinnati; College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning. My studio professors are Allan Henderson and Steve Doehler. For this competition, I have designed a jewelry set inspired by the song “Seven Wonders,” sung by Stevie Nicks. I decided to design seven unique pieces of jewelry that are based off of the song and the Ancient Seven Wonders. The pieces are all consistently clean, geometric and simplistic. The packaging has pictures of Stevie Nicks and the wonders on it and is a simple sheet of plastic, which allows it to be easily manufactured and sold in retail stores around the world, such as at Kohl’s or Claire’s.There are three pairs of earrings, which are modeled off of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, Great Pyramid of Giza, and Hanging Gardens of Babylon. All of the pieces in this set can be SLS printed with gold metal and the stones embellishments can be painted on with enamel paint. The rings each symbolize a wonder as well. Two of the rings can be worn as a pair; the circular ring with the stone insets represents the Statue of Zeus at Olympia and the triangular ring represents the crown of Colossus of Rhodes. Furthermore, the third ring has a cut extrude of the simplified outline of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus.Last but not least, the feature piece is the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus necklace. The front screen can open up when you take it off the chain and you can store little pieces of memorabilia in it, such as pictures of loved ones or jewelry charms. This way you can always have a piece of home with you while you are traveling the world.I chose to focus on world wonders for my SLS printed jewelry, because in the fall of 2017 I will be studying abroad at Accademia Italiana in Florence, Italy. I will be taking classes that I am extremely excited about, such as the Life and Works of Michelangelo, Fashion Illustration, Accessories Design and Photographing Florence. I will be traveling outside of Italy on the weekends as well, so I can see as much great architecture and as many wonders as I can. If I were chosen to receive this scholarship, I would be exceptionally grateful and would put it towards my tuition and housing costs in Italy as well as my weekend travels. Overall, the time I spend traveling abroad will allow me to experience foreign cultures, languages and traditions, which will help me grow personally and intellectually. It is tremendously important for me to have these experiences, and having extra financial support would make a significant difference in my ability to fully immerse myself in these foreign cultures.
