Globe valves obtain their name from their spherical body structure, which consists of two split halves divided internally by a baffle. The baffle has a seat that accommodates a movable plug, also referred to as a disc or disk, for closing (or shutting) the valve. In manual globe valves, the plug is connected to a stem operated via a screw action handwheel. Automated counterparts, however, employ smooth stems without threads and utilize an actuator assembly for operation.
