Inspired from the TV show "American Ninja Warrior," this hold imitates the famous cliffhanger ledge, which can be found in nearly every season of both ANW and Sasuke (the original Japanese version). A cliffhanger hold is a small rectangular ledge that competitors traverse. While ledges can vary in size (from one to two inches deep), competitors must always use their fingertips to cross the cliffhanger. This design of cliffhanger is five inches long and 1.5 inches deep--one of the easier versions of the cliffhanger. To be frank: it's still very difficult. When placed in the middle or end of a course, it is sure to tax the grip of any competitors to try it. However, due to its larger depth, it does allow for one's fingers to get a better overall grip. (For a longer, ten-inch ledge--or ledges with smaller/larger depths--please see my design page.) To secure this ledge to the wall, you can use either 3/8" lag bolts or hex bolts. (Keep in mind that 3/8" hex bolts and 3/8" washers are necessary for the hex bolt option--see the above image.) Lag bolts are permanent, whereas hex bolts can be taken out and changed if need-be. Overall, the cliffhanger is one of the most challenging obstacles in the entire sport of ninja warrior, and the slick material of PLA only increases the challenge. To add more grip, chalk can be added to the outside of the ledge--it will naturally become wedged in the layer lines of the print, which can make the cliffhanger easier and more grippy. And that's all! Simply attach the cliffhanger to a wall and get hanging!
