To help point your solar telescope at the sun with no possibility of the user looking directly at the sun. Fit's a standard telrad base (already present on most telscopes). To use, point plate with hole roughly at the sun. Move scope until light coming though hole falls onto the lower plate. For the first time, insert a 35mm square piece of paper into the slot in the lower plate. Find the sun accurately in your scope (remember to use a safe solar filter). Then using a pencil, draw a circle on the paper around the spot of light. Subsequent finding of the sun is then very quick. If you re-collimate or otherwise need to re-aligh the sun finder, flip the paper over or erase the old pencil mark.
