Supro pickup cover designed using cover from 1957 Supro D6 (double neck lap steel guitar) as a guide. Should be accurate to within a millimeter or so. You may need to move the hole slightly forwards/backwards or enlarge it as the posts on mine at least are not even close to straight.

Print Settings

Printer:

Anycubic Predator

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

.2mm layer height

Infill:

100 (part should be printed pretty much solid besides the supports)

Filament:
novamaker PLA+
black

Notes:

I printed this on an anycubic predator with wall settings in cura at a wall line count of like 8 to force it to print solid, the entire thing is a shell that covers part of the bridge/pickup assembly on a guitar so should be as rigid as possible.
Using "Concentric" as the top/bottom pattern produces a fairly neat pattern that matches the art-deco/arts& crafts aesthetic of these guitars. Ideally I can get a good print out of a resin printer that looks fairly original
Here is an example of the part in the wild:

https://reverb.com/item/25688929-lap-steel-pickup-cover-will-fit-supro-national-kay-models-valco

It looks like they are currently selling for >$100 on ebay which is anywhere from a third to a fifth of the total value of the guitar depending on condition.

If you have found this listing and have the original volume/tone knobs, or the knobs that hold this part on and could measure/provide photos of those partsplease leave a comment. I'll be designing and uploading some facsimiles of those soon however without the originals to compare against there's no way it will be the same :-)

How I Designed This

This item was box modeled using original part as a guide, measured with digital calipers for accuracy. All bits on this are accurate with the possible exception of the middle sections curve from top-to-bottom. My eyes can not see any difference compared with an original. If you find any improvements needed please remix and upload.

There may be some "sharp edges" that need to be removed on the tops/sides of the edge bevels (rounded over edges) if you print on a resin printer. I added those as the FDM printer slicers were messing with the geometry and causing some wavy edge lines on the layers. I've included the .blend file in case you want to remix/fix/improve on this, however If I can get this to print on the Photon (resin printer) I'll also upload any changes and a plated STL that worked for me and would consider it done at that point.

Category: Music
