Tone and Volume Knobs for a Supro/National/Valco style lap steel guitar, perhaps other normal style guitars. This part is designed for a "24" "fine" splined split shaft pot, however could be reworked for the 18 spline type, the part that goes over the potentiometer is a separate object and overlaid on the knob model itself. I've included the .blend file in case you want to add any different lettering.

This part is not a 1:1 replica of the original knobs since I don't have any to compare against. In particular the letter and marker dots are not the exact size, and I do not know if I got the same number of little grips up the sides of them. I was working off of photos of the originals and was unable to find anything high enough resolution/the right angle to get proper dimensions for these.

If you're looking for a replacement that goes onto the original pot shafts (1/4" round, held in place with a set screw then check:

https://daviesmolding.com/catalog/series/knobs/control/?SeriesID=1450

(It looks like these are nearly identical to what are getting sold on Reverb and other sites)

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Davies-Molding/1475-PLAIN-HOLE-W-SET-SCREW

(These are larger dimensions I believe)

This part was made out of a desire to have something that retains the original look, but with volume and treble marked, and able to fit onto a modern standard guitar pot.

Print Settings

Printer:

Anycubic Predator

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

.05 mm

Infill:

n/a

Filament:
novamaker PLA+
black

Notes:

Will upload photos of finished product. Also used CURA to slice and enabled "Adaptive Layers" experimental feature to make the tops of the knobs easier to scrape/sand to smoothness, which helps considerably if you are using FDM as opposed to SLA/DLP.

Post-Printing =============
The marker dot and letters are inset .5mm and can be filled with crayon wax/paint or if you're fancy and have a dual extruder go ahead and remix with that part in a different color :-)

For this I blobbed in some parchment colored acrylic paint and then scraped the extra paint and striations on the top mostly flush with a single edge razor blade. It could probably use some wet sanding on the top as well but that's pretty much it. I imagine this part would also benefit from being done in resin.

Category: Music
