Designed for my wife, who lamented the potential for the loss of her Surface Pro 3 pen while traveling to or from classes she is teaching. And it holds an extra battery. This DOES NOT fit the Surface Pro 4 pens, which are slightly longer, and of course when I needed a new pen the Surface Pro 3 pens were no longer available.
