This is a slightly beefier designed rear rotor guard for the DRZ 400 SM, it may also fit the S model, but they do use a smaller rotor and may have other differences. This is the 2nd design with extra reinforcements and some vent (mostly for style) holes. I printed this in regular PLA at 100 microns, mounted it on the bike, and kicked it a number of times. It appears to be plenty strong but I will be reprinting it again soon using impact modified PLA from Diamondage in New Zealand. From my experimenting on their raw impact PLA and Hi-Impact PLA, I suspect the part will be all but indestructible. While regular PLA is quite brittle (the filament can easily be folded over and snapped), the impact modified PLA takes some pretty extreme strain levels before undergoing a ductile fracture. I don't have enough to print up dogbones for the Instron, but I suspect it could easily exceed most ABS filament. The only real reason to print this is for aesthetics, the stock guard is the one cheap looking piece of white plastic on the bike. If you like the design, please "like" the design and post pictures of your completed copy or derivative. Instructions Printed at 100 microns in PLA on an Ultimaker. 100% infill.
