Swansea Heads with geology layer

sketchfab

The rock platform at Swansea Heads is comprised of a section of the Boolaroo Formation of the Newcastle Coal Measures. Rock types present include sandstone (Warner’s Bay Member), carbonaceous shale, coal (lower and upper Pilot seams), volcanic ash (Reid’s Mistake Member) and conglomerate (Belmont Conglomerate). In this version, as well as the preserved tree stumps (in green) and fallen logs (in purple), a transparent layer representing the geology has been added and annotated. Although there is some dispute as to what section of the Newcastle Coal Measures is exposed on this rock platform, the nomenclature used here is the original. The sequence is dipping at about 6° to the west (into the cliff). The outcrop pattern also hints at some minor warping around an east-west axis. Another version with a higher quality mesh and links to outcrop scale 3D models of stumps and logs is available here.
