Switchable Outlet Strip

Switchable Outlet Strip

...playing with the customizer & openSCAD :-) Compose a switchable outlet strip to reduce standby power (box with holes for plugs and switches). Mount power switches in the holes above the corresponding text and the corresponding plug on the backside, and connect them... Lesson learned: 3D SCAD just for lasercutter files is a little bit overkill. First version with nicer curls in the edges from a font took way to long to render on my computer for the dxf-output. Not printed or cutted yet (although i don't believe that there should be any problems, apart from the two files (as layer) to distinguish between engraving and cutting lines for the lasercutter...just made as homework for http://hci.rwth-aachen.de/mcp. Instructions Customize, print or lasercut it... Just worked with openSCAD and customizer. Some remarks on this first attempt (Things i couldn't solve): -sadly, using an array as string input for the names (which would allow as many plugs as you want did't work with customizer. Using just one string with some kind of marker to distinguish different words did't worked because of the variables constraints in openSCAD :-( -got some problems with the height of the object: w = ceil(baseWidthnumber+2t); works, h = ceil(baseHeight+2*t); not??? Maybe i'm just blind, and the problem was somewhere else. -no dxf import possible in customizer, so no nice curls in the edges (at least that saves much energy for rendering :-) Conclusion: Making a 3D model for lasercutting plain old boxes is a greatly exaggerated :-)
