Synthesis of a Plane Mechanism

This is an original project presenting a basically four-bars mechanism that should fulfill a demand. The demand was to insure a linear displacement of 71.5 mm on a line in a slope of 5°. The solution was made with Autodesk Inventor 2014 and the animation was created with the Inventor Studio module. The crank is the green bar and the other bars which compose together the basic „four-bar” mechanism are the orange, and the red one, plus the supporting plate. Considering 0° the angle when the crank is aligned with the left side of the plate, the full movement is done due to the clockwise action from -27° to 54° of the crank. The levers were dimensioned to accomplish the demand, and you can see that the lower vertex of the triangle is moving between the marks situated at a distance of 71.5 mm. You have to note that the mechanism is desmodromic, which means that the speed of a mobile component (the crank) conducts to a certain speed of the another one (the vertex of the triangle). In other words, the mechanism has only one degree of freedom, because of the roller tangency with the channel in the plate. You can download the parts and the assembly, and then enter the Environments/Inventor Studio to set the animation as you wish, and to watch what happens. Enjoy!
