T-Rex Tape Dispenser Revisited

T-Rex Tape Dispenser Revisited

I enjoyed the T-Rex Tape Dispenser but it was difficult to get the tape spool in place and would not hold a full spool. So I went back to the source The T-Rex Skull, and with the help of the 3M Tape Dispenser Core I made a new one. This one is a bit larger than the previous one and can be a challenge to print, but will look fearsome on your desk and actually dispense a full roll of tape. It is especially awesome when printed with glow-in-the-dark filament! Instructions Printed in ABS at 0.2 mm layers and 15% infill, with supports. Treated post-print with acetone vapors. For the skull I used glow-in-the-dark white filament. Assembly is pretty straight-forward. Do not glue any part of the actual skull. To disassemble, firmly pinch the rear tips of both sides of the jaw bone. Lift off the upper skull. You may now replace the roll of tape and/or remove the lower jaw. There are two versions of the base. If you have a problem printing large flat objects, you can opt to print T-Rex Base Part 1.stl, T-Rex Base Part 2.stl, and T-Rex Base Part 3.stl. If so, you will need to glue the two halves together and attach the braces with a couple of small sharp screws. (Make sure the opening for the tape spool pin faces toward the rear.) Otherwise, you only need to print T-Rex Base Whole.stl. I printed both versions successfully, in the pictures above it is difficult to tell which is which. Note: Jan 2016, I uploaded an improved version of the Base_Whole file. It should be easier to print with less warping. No support required.
