Tabletop Easel / Light Table
thingiverse
My girlfriend was searching for a device like a light table where she could put a light behind it and trace through paper with ease, so I decided to take this 11"x13" piece of glass we had picked up at the Ace hardware store for $8 (all hardware stores will sell glass to cut), and print some legs so that it works as an easel. I'm thoroughly satisfied and imagining even more uses for it than I initially planned. You can use it to comfortably read a book, hold a laptop, or hold paper for drawing with ease. With glass or acrylic, backlighting is effortless for sketching/tracing purposes. The 3mm-thick glass we had worked well, so I designed the model to print as if it were 2.8mm thick, allowing it to fit snugly without any gaps. The printed design holds onto the glass incredibly well. I tapped it on with a hammer, and now it fits snugly in place. You can adjust the cad file's thickness according to your material needs. I also added some extra details – the plastic is super slick on the table, so I glued rubber sheet to the bottom of the feet so it wouldn't slide around easily. Additional Note: I've added a STEP cad file that allows you to adjust the width of the slot for the material you're using. The original STLs have a 2.8mm-wide slot, which works perfectly with 3mm glass. If you're working with different materials, simply adjust the width accordingly. I'm happy to help if you need any further assistance – just send me a message or leave a comment.
