Take My Card

There exists a pressure to grow up; a pressure to succeed; and a pressure to establish oneself. Growing up, however new and exciting, is a process that can be imposed too early upon contemporary adolescents. In childhood there is curiosity, fantasy, and time for play. But as a child grows, toys are abandoned and replaced with textbooks, homework, and college catalogs. From then on, there is a persistent pressure, reinforced by parents, teachers, and peers, to be somebody. “Take My Card” embodies an identity that is premature, delicate, and in development. The box, which bears a logo of a fictitious company, contains puzzle pieces that assemble into a business card. This card, unable to function as a networking tool, must inevitably be disassembled and placed back into the box. This act plays on the idea that as the pressure to grow up sacrifices crucial moments of a developing child, it may, in turn, stifle itself in the process.
