This accessory clips onto a the extended tape of tape measure; it works with both narrow and wide tapes up to 25mm in width.

To use the accessory, extend the tape to approximately the length required, then open the “keeper” (the part that rotates around the base), and insert the tape into the accessory. Rotate the keeper so that it presses the tape against the base, and push the keeper (while pushing down) towards the far end of the base until the catch holds it in place (see photos).

To measure the length to an inside corner (see photos), push the accessory against the “wall” of the corner while holding the tape in place, then allow the tape to straighten out with the accessory clipped in place. The length to the inside corner will be the length of the tape at the edge of the accessory.

For drawing circles or curves, use a nail to hold the tab end of the tape (see photo). Position the tape accessory at the desired length, and insert a pencil point into the hole (see photo) to draw a circle of circular curve.

CAD

The On Shape 3D CAD files for this are here:

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/0d977d9b4e904db0b35b3afd/w/eb8152de527832ee2fcf1306/e/7ff47c468a0f9bec27bfff76

Print Instructions

Print in PLA using the 3mf file or gcode file provided. Alternatively :

position sideways as shown in photo

15% rectilinear infill

detect thin walls = on

paint supports under the circular part of the keeper, and the rod it slides on

There are "built in" supports for the keeper catch - these are easily removed after printing with a razor knife. Remove the supports for the keeper as you would normally remove supports.

After printing, carefully rotate the keeper to loosen it up, then slide it back and forth while rotating until it slides and rotates freely (I found it necessary to remove a loose strand of filament from the support rod).
