The Turnigy Talon Hexacopter frame from Hobby King is pretty great for what it is... A Nice simple strong and lightweight carbon fiber frame, but it was obviously not designed to carry any payload. I wanted to be able to use it to carry the Tarot T-2D Gimbal I already had, so I designed this mount. It needed to be easily printable, lightweight, and had to incorporate landing skids into the design. I also wanted to keep the batteries below the frame to help with stability. I am using 16mm carbon tube for the legs (cut to 170mm) and 3/8" wooden dowels for the tarot mount and the landing skids. This is mostly because this is what I had laying around the shop. With the feet angled out, it still seems pretty stable and the landing skids are not visible in the shot. I printed this in taulman bridge nylon (which works pretty great) and this feels like it will be plenty strong. I put a few drops of CA in the joints to keep them from rotating around the tubes as Nylon can be quite slippery and it didn't seem to want to clamp tight enough to keep it from rotating. With the 3DR 850kv motors and 10x4.7 SF props, this setup is pulling around 19A in a hover with a 5000mAh 3s pack. Sketchup files are attached... feel free to tinker with this to make improvements.
