TAZ 5 Lack Enclosure

TAZ 5 Lack Enclosure

A simple TAZ 5 Enclosure using an Ikea Lack hack. I designed this Lack Enclosure to minimize cost and modifications to the Lack as well as minimize cuts to the Plexiglas. The clear Plexiglas sheets lift out freely from the enclosure rather than sliding open. They are also held in place at the bottom of the enclosure brackets so the entire structure can be lifted off. Gaps were filled using foam insulation found at Home Depot. This enclosure is actually too small for the TAZ 5, but only by approximately 1 inch. Because of this, I have included a Y-Stop adjustment clip (note the positioning in the provided pictures) and suggest changing the settings in your software to make the build plate shorter by 25mm, and reduce the presentation/cooling position by 50mm. This will prevent the build plate from running into the glass during operation. If you end up needing that extra inch for a larger print, the glass and clip can be removed, and the settings reverted. Necessary Parts/Tools: 1x Ikea Lack 4x clear acrylic panes (size 18x24) : https://tinyurl.com/y8vvucqh 2x Foam Weatherstripping Tape (3/8 in. x 17 ft): https://tinyurl.com/ycbebt3b 4x Screws Power Drill 1in diameter drill bit Long Screwdriver or extension for power drill (it also helps to drill pilot holes in the bottoms of the legs first) Something to cut Plexiglass with (Handheld rotary saw and/or utility knife) An entire 1kg spool of filament All in all, this entire enclosure cost me less than $100 US. I have included the sketchup file I used to design this in case there is any confusion with how it should be assembled. *Special Note: Be careful when drilling the hole in the top. It is very easy to blow out the hole and split the material. Make sure your bit is sharp, and that you are drilling straight. The hollow bolt has a fair amount of overhang to compensate for the fact that your hole will not be perfect. That being said. Be careful.
