The TCS3200 and TCS3210 are programmable color light-to-frequency converters, featuring configurable silicon photodiodes and a current-to-frequency converter on a single CMOS integrated circuit. These devices generate a square wave output (50% duty cycle) with frequency proportional to light intensity. The full-scale output frequency can be adjusted using three preset values via two control input pins. Digital inputs and outputs enable direct interfacing with microcontrollers or other logic circuits, while the output enable pin puts the output in a high-impedance state for sharing among multiple units. In TCS3200, an 8 x 8 array of photodiodes is read, with 16 blue, 16 green, 16 red, and 16 clear photodiodes. The TCS3210 features a 4 x 6 array of photodiodes, consisting of six blue, six green, six red, and six clear photodiodes. Interdigitation of the four photodiode types minimizes the impact of non-uniform irradiance, with all photodiodes of the same color connected in parallel. S2 and S3 pins select which group of photodiodes (red, green, blue, clear) is active. Photodiodes measure 110 μm x 110
