A clay tobacco pipe bowl embossed with “T.D.” recovered during the 2019 excavations at the Caulkers’ Houses in Fell’s Point, Baltimore, Maryland. White clay pipes with the initials T.D. dates back over two centuriesy and by some accounts has been correlated possibly with the London pipe maker Thomas Dormer. Decades later, T.D. marked pipes came to stand for a generic style and became a trademark used to denote a certain brand.
