Telescope Cable Guide Bracket

Telescope Cable Guide Bracket

Equatorial GOTO telescopes have the ability to point skyward in any direction. When used for astrophotography, they will also have several cables (cameras, heaters, focusers etc) running from the telescope to the mount tripod base. These cables must be able to freely rotate with the telescope AND must not snag or bind on any of the mount features. When this happens the RA and/or DEC drive motors stall causing a loss of alignment and a very long and frustrating evening! I have played with many cable orientations for my Explore Scientific EXOS-II mount with the ES102CF refractor telescope. The best configuration I have found is to have the cables coming off the north end of the cradle dovetail bar. Unfortunately, there aren't any simple mounting features to retain the cable on the dovetail bar so I designed this part to slide over the dovetail end. No fasteners are required and the cradle U-feature is large enough to hold all the cables commonly used. I even wrap mine in a plastic spiral wrap to keep them together. This bracket is designed to fit on the Explore Scientific Vixen style dovetail bar but it may fit on other brand V-bars too. I have included a Word file with the dimensions used in this design in case you want to check for compatibility.
