Temple of Poseidon - Cape Sounion, Greece

Welcome to Cape Sounion, Greece! This model was created by MiniWorld 3D founder and lead 3D artist Dany Sánchez.  The ancient Greek temple of Poseidon is one of the major monuments from the Golden Age of Athens. It overlooks the Aegean sea from the top of Cape Sounion, a cliff almost 60 metres (200 ft) high. The current temple replaced an older structure from the Archaic period, which was likely destroyed in 480 BCE during the Persian invasion of Greece. Decades later, it was rebuilt by Pericles, who also rebuilt the Acropolis and the Parthenon. This time, it was built out of marble, and in the Doric order. It followed typical Greek temple architectural patterns: shaped like a rectangle, with columns on all sides, a windowless room in the center would have housed a colossal bronze statue of Poseidon. The remarkably well preserved temple of Hephaestus in Athens shares almost identical features and measurements, giving us a very good idea of what the temple of Poseidon would have looked like before its partial destruction (from Wikipedia).  This temple is very special to Dany Sánchez, who visited it in 2005, and is finally available for everyone in 3D printable format. MiniWorld3D is excited to bring this model to life as a homage to all people of Greece. Please give credit, it's all about spreading culture and education!
