Tesseract Delta

Tesseract Delta

[UPDATE 7-19-16: I now recommend using the Duet and RepRapFirmware instead of Repetier on Due. Suitable mount STLs have been added.] Introducing the Tesseract Delta! It's an entirely new concept in frame design for Delta printers. Yep, that's right, the frame is a cube tilted up on one corner. This provides proper Delta column alignment, with no triangles! That means it can be built with common metal 90 degree brackets for maximum parts availability and rigidity. A tesseract (or hypercube) is the mathematical extension of a cube into four dimensions. The tilted orientation and delta mechanics add a new dimension to the typical cube-frame 3D printer -- thus the name. Any standard Delta drivetrain will work in this frame, but the one used here is a new ball-bearing U-joint based design. It's rigid and long-lasting. Any typical hot end may be installed given a suitable effector mount, but the one used here is a new hybrid Bowden / Replicator 2 hot end. In addition to being significantly more compact than an E3Dv6 or ANY groovemount, It is all-metal and reliably prints anything from PLA to polycarbonate. The "special sauce" in the stepped-diameter thermal barrier design is well-proven in tens of thousands of printers around the world and is widely available via the Makerbot Rep1/2/2x aftermarket parts ecosystem. The Tesseract Delta Rev2 is uploaded here in the STLs and BOM. Rev1 is included in the source file in case anyone is interested. Detailed Rev1 build info: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/deltabot/tesseract/deltabot/iibYgiTxU5U/TxYUtlvLCgAJ 2-26-16: Initial upload of STLs, BOM, build photos 7-19-16: Added mount STLs for Duet and PanelDue (4.3" v1.0) touchscreen. 4-10-17: Added "blank" effector STL for cutting out alternative hot ends mounts.
