This cup behaves normally until it you fill it almost to the top. Then it will automatically empty itself completely.

Inspired by a documentary about the ancient Greeks where this Pythagoras Cup was displayed, I wanted to 3D print a modern version. (obviously I'm not the first to do this - there are already a few others models out there)
The communicating vessels run through the ear of the cup. Important in the design was the diameter of the vessels. They needed to be wide enough to overcome the adhesive forces to allow the liquid to flow properly. The bottom of the cup is flat, so the cup only loses its contents as soon as you pick it up.
So far, all the victims of my practical joke have been very surprised. It is surprising how few people still remember the principle of communicating vessels from their school days.

When you print a second version with a transparent filament you can see the liquid keeps flowing higher in the ear of the cup and you public will start understanding.

Soda-drinks don't work well due to the bubbles.
