The obelisk was erected in the centre of Nimrud shortly before Shalmaneser III's death. It records the king's campaigns, showing tribute brought from all directions, identifyied by captions. The places from which the tribute came, from top to bottom, are: 1. Gilzanu (western Iran), 2. Jehu, king of Israel, 3. Musri (perhaps eastern Iran), 4. Suhi (on the Middle Euphrates), 5. Patina (south Turkey). The stone itself is a fine-grain black limestone streaked with white.   This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
