I present to you...The Bri-Pod!...Because my names Brian...and, I made a tripod... This is a DIY 3D printed miniature tripod using carbon fiber tubes for legs. Ball head not included. I recently moved and now drive an hour for work, so I decided to use my Peak Design Everyday Bag just so, every day. I throw my work clothes inside with room for my camera. However, my Joby Gorillapod doesn't do it for me anymore. It is the right size, but it doesn't hold my DSLR as steady as I'd like. I began looking for a small, lightweight, sturdy tripod to strap to it, but I came up dry. After a little Google search, I realized how easy it is to buy carbon fiber tubes and decided to go about designing my own tripod. Everything is based around 25mm carbon fiber tubes. When I first received the tubes in the mail, I thought this was severe overkill, and it may be, but it looks 'right' in the end. The final product sits just over 12 inches tall and weighs almost nothing. (Unless you're like me and put a one pound ball head on it.) However, you can make this to any height you desire, just cut the tubes to the length you'd like. The tubes can easily be cut with a hand saw or a Dremel. I mean 'real easy'. It only took a few seconds for each leg. It uses M3 screws and lock nuts to hold the legs in place, which I covered with the end caps to pretty the thing up. and I dipped the feet in Plasti-Dip to provide a rubbery finish to hold it in place. The bottom of the body has space for a 3/8 16 bolt and washer to hold the head on. When I printed this, the body lifted from the bed a bit along the arms so I made a version with little feet to try and hold it down. I also had issues with the tripod feet and added some crossbars to help hold it down. These also made it really easy to dip them in the Plasti-Dip. So I've included both with and without, for the daring. Note: The body has some built-in support to try and help keep the bottom of the screw hole from completely falling apart. You could add some supports if you'd like, but it is not necessary. If you deside to make this, let me see. I'd love to know how it looks!
