It is well known that there are 24 types of jigsaw pieces (allowing rotations) with each side being either a bulge, a notch, or neither (straight edge or similar). This gives the 24 possible shapes, with every bulge fitting with every notch, and straight edges for neither. The challenge is to form a 4 x 6 rectangle from these pieces (the 3 x 8 is impossible). This is a fairly easy puzzle, which works well with kids. Other interesting shapes can be formed from the pieces.
