The Earth Inductor Thing demonstrates Michael Faraday's discovery: electromagnetic induction. It rotates coiled conducting wire in the earth's magnetic field (by default) inducing current that can be measured with a galvanometer. It is a rewarding model to create and is an eye-opener for anyone that has not seen this phenomenon demonstrated before.
