Cat Wall Step

Cat Wall Step

This is a wall shelf/step I designed to use for cats as an in-between larger shelves. It's 240mm wide, which is close to the maximum of the Sovol SV01. I designed the three shelf supports to have 45 degree angles so no printing supports are needed. The model is shown upside-down, how it would be printed, but the large flat face is intended to be the top of the shelf.

The mounting holes are designed for 1/4" drywall anchors, specifically "Toggler Snaptoggle BB Heavy Duty 1/4" Toggle Bolts". These are rated for 265lbs directly against the wall, so I'm betting on two of them combined with the support brackets on the shelf being enough for cats, who hopefully won't be dropping down onto these from a great height. The mounting holes are 12.5mm for the bolt head, 7mm for the bolt itself, and have a 1.5mm deep by 23mm diameter recess for the drywall anchor. The recess is a circle to allow for any orientation of the rectangular anchor face.

I've uploaded the Fusion 360 file, but honestly it's kind of a mess. There are a fair amount of unused parameters I didn't clean up yet. You should be able to get away with modifying the mounting holes and their distance from center without much trouble, but unfortunately I borked the constraints and can't easily change the diameter of the entire shelf (the mounting brackets won't follow the resize well). These parameters are for the mounting holes:

*mount_point distance of the mount from center

*mount_radius size of the quarter-sphere mount body

*screw_head_diameter diameter of the screw/bolt head

*screw_hole_diameter diameter of the screw/bolt body

*anchor_recess_diameter the diameter of the circular recess at the back of the mount

*anchor_recess_depth the depth the recess cuts into the mount and shelf

Print Settings

Printer:

SV01

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

10

Filament:

IIIDMax PLA+

Notes:

I'm only using the IIIDMax filament because I have a lot of it and it was cheap. I don't like it that much, eSun's PLA+ is much nicer in my experience.

I'd use a high number of walls, 5-10. At 45mm speed, 0.6 line width, 0.2 resolution, and 5-6 walls, this was estimated to take 12 hours to print, and use a bit less than 300g of filament. I'm using 0.3 resolution with adaptive layers, which prints the main body at 0.4mm height and everything above it at 0.16. That was estimated at 15-16 hours.

Category: Pets
