The Globe Theatre

The Globe Theatre

Made for English 225: Shakespeare class at The University of North Carolina in Spring 2019. Detailed model of the building. Before planning this project, I lacked experience in 3D modeling. It was a challenge that I was prepared to put many hours into, and in retrospect, I’m extremely proud of the final product. I wanted the design for the model itself to be unique and show the functionality of the building in addition to its beauty. Doing preliminary research, the only 3D print models of The Globe Theatre I found online lacked detail and only represented the rough shape of the building. I wanted to integrate in a cross section of the building, so that the viewer sees the detail in the stage and the staircase in the southwestern tower. My goal was to make a model that was recognizable in shape but also included as many details as Fusion 360 would allow me to add. I used an online Globe Theatre snapshot application to view the stage from online of the theatre. I’ve included much attention to detail on the elements of the stage, and everything has been measured and built by myself. Early models of my design failed due to issues with how the 3D printer creates arches, so I needed to add sloped ceilings in order for the machine to print my structure. I went through 4 printed prototypes to reach my final model. Enjoy!
