This has an extra concept, namely the engines have a double function, they can be used to generate speed during ascend, but after reaching the highest point, it could double as a electric regenerator. mass will fall anyway, why not generate electricity like a electric car from braking, during a long glide period? saving on fuel etc. even if they were only turbines, why not use the flow for capturing more energy? the mass must get up anyway, once at speed open up the protectors and let wind turn the turbines for generating electric energy rerouted back to the other engines, as needed.
