>Just a brain fart when a female friend brought up the boredom of isolation.. > > >**Health & Safety Warning:** *Be sure not to print this with toxic filaments like ABS!!* > >*The outer diameter is 5 cm (1.97"), so not suitable for the untrained, beware..* > > > >My female friend wanted something without batteries to light up a dull day...so I immediately thought of a way and fired up OpenSCAD and a new Thing was born.. > > >**Printing instructions** > >This Thing was designed to have a weighted object inside the low poly interior for the 'Rattle' functionality: >*During the print*, insert an object like; a steel pinball-machine tilt-ball (these are usually around 24 mm/0.94"), a vintage 'ball-mouse ball', a glass marble or your favorite 'pet rock'. >Just pause your print (if your printer allows pausing) when you think your preferred insert will clear the nozzle and print path and continue the print after insertion. >Around layer 525 (with 0.12 layer height) the hollow top is about half way done. The inner diameter is about 45 mm (1.77"), so bigger inserts need to be added as near to the end of the print process as possible. (I used a mouse ball (22 mm/0.86"), so don't know if bigger will work). >Be sure to sterilize your insert. > > >**Printing notes** > >Print sideways for more strength, printing upright may result in "premature" layer separation if your printer and/or filament aren't dialed in. > > >**Post-printing** > >If you printed this with food-grade filament, just cut/file off any imperfections and sand it smooth. >Alternatively it could be wrapped in a condom, or coated with self curing latex, just be sure it's safe to use on human skin. > >*Some people are allergic to latex, so keep that in mind.* > > >**Afterthoughts** > >My friend was very happy with her new toy and she said is was nice to use, but it's not very quiet. Maybe I'll try another one with a steel ball with a thick silicone coating. > >..have fun printing and even more fun surprising someone with this toy! > >If you like my design, feel free to donate
