The Skull of Phineas Gage - Clean Resculpt

thingiverse

Bring me the skull of Phineas Gage! This is a resculpt that's been cleaned-up from Graham Holt's CT scan reconstruction. Loose geometries have been removed, lots of holes filled, walls thickened, etc., to improve 3D printability. Areas that were too challenging to reconstruct were patched with the MakerBot skull. I tried to maintain anatomical accuracy as best I could, but I did simplify some features in favor of printability, e.g., removing/truncating the sinus cavities. I also added a friction-fit rim for the top of the skull. It can be a tight or loose fit depending on how much you sand the edges where they meet. In addition to decimated models, I've included the dense mesh of the complete skull to facilitate remixes. 2022-11-21 update: Did a Laplacian smooth and light mesh cleanup on the complete decimated model. Also reoriented both complete skulls to have them face the -Y direction instead of +Y. 2022-11-23 update: Improved the friction fit for the top half of the skull. It should now be a very tight fit when left unsanded.
