Only the body of the statue is ancient: the restorer gave the statue a head inspired from the Juno of the Ludovisi collection, and added the prow of a ship, transforming the statue into Thetis, the Greek goddess of the sea. The work was part of a group of ten divinities once displayed in the semicircular portico of the Villa Albani.
