Thick toilet paper spindle

This toilet paper spindle (roller, axle, whatever you call it) is designed to fit the core of the toilet paper roll snugly, so that it is centered and rotates smoothly rather than wobbling. In particular, my toilet paper holder is partly inset into the wall, and this prevents the roll from sticking against the bottom and being hard to pull.

You may need to customize it to fit your holder (and spring); I don't know how standard the particular dimensions of these things are. The
.scad
file is fully parameterized and if you enable the
clearance_test
you will see a cutaway of how the two parts fit together.

The spring I used is specified as 23/32" diameter by 3 1/2" long (18.2 mm by 88.9 mm). The spring length can be modified in the
.scad
file. Remember that the spring should be preloaded (the length of the cavity in the spindle is somewhat shorter than the actual uncompressed length of the spring), or it will fall out too easily.

Print instructions

Took 3 1/2 hours to print on my printer.

The inner section has very little bottom layer area and is kind of top-heavy, so if you are worried at all about bed adhesion, consider using a brim.

After printing: When fitting the two halves together, squeeze the four hooks on the inner half until they slip in — despite their slopes as modeled they probably won't go on their own due to layer ridges. It will take a fair bit of force but mine did not break at all despite being printed in brittle PLA.
