first half of 2nd year in GMP we didn't had much real design work, but little things from left and right, and this one big thing + the year project here : School project adaptation of a professional 3D printer to open source components lubrification pump+reservoir (to do on our free time during 1 month) we had to study the environmental impacts of an existing pump/reservoir and find what to improve on it then design the improved product, and finally compare it with the original here, in a nutshell : the reservoir became a plastic hemisphere from being an stainless steel rectangle (way lighter and less water toxicity when produced) the original product used an outside pneumatic power source for lubricant injection, and an electric motor to mix it, and now it only has 1 electric motor directly connected to the mixing propeller, and reduced a lot to get to the injection chamber to get 20bars or pressure (that removed a lot of pieces and lowered by half the power consumption) metal pieces are all cylindrical and made out of a tube with 2 ends screwed to it, so less metal is wasted all of that is purely hypothetical, but it should work, and overall have less impact, and cost less
