Think Outside The Box - Cufflink Master

myminifactory

This design is an entry into the Vectary Design Competition sponsored by MakeX. *Update! Just got photos of this print hot off the press of a Formlabs Form 2. I figured this would be one of the best ways to try to replicate the settings that would be possible using the MakeX M-Jewelry. These pictures are first views.  I'm a father, a teacher, and an occasional maker of things. I'm not a designer by trade and I'm definitely not a professional. I don't think I'm the best of the best when it comes to precision but I am someone with a mind for creative ideas who knows his way around a CAD program. When the Vectary x MyMiniFactory contest was announced, I chose to go small. Real small. Like, so small that a standard FDM printer is probably going to have trouble with the tiny dimensions and hard angles. Given that the top prize for this contest is the MakeX M-Jewelry - a high precision DLP printer - I figured I'd roll the dice. This is a 22mm x 22mm x 5mm cufflink. Using the built in Google Fonts Integration, I've added text to the plate and modified the terrain to include a series of peaks and valleys to show off the potential capabilities handling high resolution prints through DLP printing. To check out a step-by-step, jump to Adobe Spark where I've put together a more detailed description of some of the steps it took to pull of this project.  This model was created with VECTARY - the free, online 3D modeling tool Credits: model by Colin Pattison
