A third hand is very useful for many hobbies. There are two choices of third hand bases. A four arm and a six arm base. The four arm requires four 10 mm x 5 mm neodymium magnets be pressed into the bottom. This is easily done on a table. I use a large metal washer as weight and the third hand is affixed to it with magnets. Note that the four threaded holes has another smaller hole perpendicular to the threaded hole. These are for running a wire inside the flexible arm. You could then use the arms as a probe when troubleshooting circuits. The six arm base does not use magnets. You may install 5 mm bolts and nuts to affix to a wood platform or use it without a platform. The arms used are flexible coolant hoses that you can buy directly on Amazon as well as the alligator clips. I found using a 6/32 bolt to be the best solution on getting the clips into the flexible hose. This allows for a good fit and also the added benefit of being able to rotate the clip. The head of the 6/32 bolt is cut off using an angle grinder or hacksaw.
