Thomson Problem Ornaments

Thomson Problem Ornaments

thingiverse

Here are two ornaments, one based on a 399 electron solution to the Thomson problem; the second on a 400 electron solution. The coordinates of the electrons were used to create polyhedron duals, the 400 electron polyhedron has 12 pentagonal and 388 hexagonal faces while the 399 electron polyhedron has a single heptagonal face, 13 pentagonal faces, and 385 hexagonal faces. The single heptagonal face shares edges with 2 pentagonal faces. OpenSCAD code is included. Instructions On my Replicator I printed the ornaments using external support. The single heptagonal face occurs near the equator of the 399 electron polyhedron if one considers the connector to be the north pole.
