Three Closely Related Bowls

thingiverse

The first bowl is based on the rhombicosidodecahedron, the second on its dual, and the third on the composite of the two polyhedra. The rhombicosidodecahedron makes a pleasing bowl - it has triangular, square, and pentagonal faces, all with the same edge length, the triangles share edges with the squares, and the squares share edges with the pentagons. The dual has 60 identical faces, shaped like kites. Vertices of the kites are shared by 3, 4 or 5 kites and these meeting points protrude through the corresponding faces of the rhombicosidodecahedron in the composite. OpenSCAD code is included. Instructions The bowls were printed on a Replicator using 0.3 mm layers without support. The bowls share a scale and properly oriented it is obvious that the composite bowl is the union of the other two.
